On September 23, 1962 the Jetsons premiered on American television. Produced by Hanna-Barbera this show was a futuristic counterpart of The Flintstones. The exact date of when the cartoon takes place is not known, however some believe that it was set in the year 2000 or 2062. The cartoon showed us what the future might hold for us in 2000s—talking watches, video calls, flying cars and robot maids.
Hmmmmmm…Fast forward to today and most of the technology that was imagined in the show is actually in existence. Through the years we have made advances in the technology we use to make our day to day lives safer and more convenient. From automated blinds, to wearable devices that keep us connected. Our imagination is limitless and we need to give a shout out to George Jetson for planting a seed in our young minds back in 1962.
We might not have flying cars or Rosie yet, but we do have awesome gadgets that push us a bit closer to the futuristic world in the cartoon. Take for instance the Smart Home.
Smart Homes used to just be a concept you learned about on the Carousel of Progress at Walt Disney World, or a few booths you find at CES (Consumer Electronics Show). Now builders, architects and homeowners are customizing and building smart homes that control just about everything. The concept of the smart home is not to just be smart, but to be engaging and resourceful. People use “smart” nowadays with just about any product that is wireless. However making your home “smart” is more than installing and controlling things via WiFi. It is integrating technology seamlessly with your lifestyle to provide safety and comfort at a tap of a screen.
Imagine you come home from work and your house is ready to greet you with the perfect setting just as you like it. Your blinds are set to expose the sunset, while your dishwasher just finished drying your dirty dishes. An alarm gently reminds you that the wine you have chilling in the refrigerator is now ready to be uncorked, as you walk to the kitchen to pour a glass of wine music fills the room with your current playlist. Mood lighting throughout the house slowly comes on to the desired level. This is the type of comfort your home can bring you.
Besides comfort “smart” homes can also bring you security. From an alert at the first drop of water on your floor to a broken window, to even notifying you when someone has entered the grounds of your home…all of these safety features are now possible.
