The Mill

Project: Next Generation Infrastructure & Control
Date: 2015
Location: Near West Side – Chicago, IL

The Situation

A global video production company occupying a 20,000 sq/ft office in Chicago’s West Loop needed a next generation fiber and 10-gig ethernet backbone to support connectivity between their centralized processing servers and office workstations. In addition, intelligent lighting control was desired for reliable LED dimming, automated control and energy savings. Surveillance and access control were also desired, for enterprise level visibility. An ultra-clean finished appearance was a must.

The Approach

Sound Specialists designed an efficient combination of exposed overhead cable ladders and wiremold to attractively distribute the massive data trunks throughout the space. To optimize thousands of fiber and copper connections, MTP multi-pair fiber and copper trunks were pulled between patch racks in the server room and  custom, steel wall-plates in the suites. Intelligent lighting control was provided using centralized Lutron Ecosystem modules. These communicate with each lighting fixture individually, allowing for dynamic zoning and custom control. We provided access control blades and proximity readers to support access management at secured areas. Discreet IP surveillance cameras were strategically installed throughout the space for live monitoring and archived record. A Crestron control system was employed to simplify AV switching and lighting control. A cold aisle containment system for 16 server racks was installed for data center quality thermal management.
